About us

Our values

At STBBC we commit to worshipping God: Father, Son and Spirit, in all that we are and do.

Our values represent what is important to us. They are what make us tick, helping us make decisions together as we grow.

01

Adventure

We believe that God is always on the move and doing a new thing.

  • We want to respond creatively and imaginatively to what God is doing in us, in our local community, and in the world.
  • We are committed to taking risks and stepping out in faith, even if that means that sometimes we will fail and get it wrong.
  • We recognise that God is often at work on the margins, amongst the poor and the weak, and we want to join that work of bringing hope and change.
  • We recognise that the Christian faith is a journey and we are committed to helping people move forward, wherever they are at present.
  • We are hopeful for the future.

02

Generosity

We recognise that God is a life-giving and generous God, and we want to be like that too.

  • We are committed to being a blessing to everyone.
  • We will seek to prioritise the poor, vulnerable and marginalised.
  • We value laughter and sharing meals together.
  • We always want to believe the best about one another, and will be kind and generous in our opinions and attitudes.
  • We are committed to resourcing the mission and ministry of our church with cheerful and sacrificial giving.

Reflection

We recognise that our relationship with God is the key to being fruitful in our mission and ministry.

  • We value the Bible highly and want to become better disciples of Jesus as we study God's Word.
  • We believe that asking questions is an important part of learning and discerning together.
  • We will prioritise prayer and theological reflection as we seek the strength and wisdom to be who God is calling us to be.
  • We commit to being a community that listens before it speaks.
  • We want to be engaged with issues of justice, and committed to deepening our understanding of our culture.
  • We want to learn from others, and be attentive to our Baptist tradition.

Sanctuary

We believe that all people are loved by God, regardless of age, gender, education, class, ethnicity, sexuality, physical or mental health, or personal history.

  • We want our church to be a safe place for everyone, especially those who are fearful or in danger.
  • We recognise the importance of giving everyone the opportunity to participate in the life of the church.
  • We want to grow to be a place and people of peace.
  • We want to be a community that provides opportunities to experience wholeness and healing.
