Community work

Here for our neighbours

Serving our neighbours in Shoeburyness and across South East Essex, through practical help, hospitality and time spent alongside people.

Well-being cafe

Renew

Every Wednesday from 12-2pm our well-being cafe meets for a variety of hobbies and activities. These are run by the community for the community. Anyone is welcome to share a hobby or skill and anyone is welcome to join an activity. You can come and relax and chat or enjoy the peace in our quiet area.

The activities are based around the '5 ways to wellbeing' which promote good mental and emotional health. To connect, give, be active, keep learning, and take notice will hopefully contribute towards a preventative approach to mental ill health.

The Shoebury Bookshed

Saturdays, 10am to 12pm

A secondhand bookshop based in the car park of the church, with fiction, non-fiction and children's book sections. We are open every Saturday morning as well as at various times during the week, and our hours are posted on the Shoebury Bookshed Facebook page each week.

Debt help

Christians Against Poverty

STBBC has been involved with Christians Against Poverty for many years, running Money Management courses that help people at all stages in life to understand their finances and make more informed decisions.

In 2014 we opened the first Debt Centre in Southend, in conjunction with 15 other churches in the area. In the first two years of operation we have seen over 100 clients, and so far 16 have gone debt free.

Debt advice is provided by experts at CAP, and our task locally is to help clients sort through their paperwork and present a budget that CAP has prepared. We also offer emotional and practical support through a team of befrienders who accompany us on visits. The service is available to anyone regardless of age, gender, faith or background.
